Ten year sentence for rapist
A man from Vaalwater has been sent to jail for ten years following the rape of a 29-year-old woman last year.
Tselane Gotlane Elis was found guilty by the Modimolle Regional Court after he was apprehended in November last year.
The court heard that the victim was walking along the road from her home in Vaalwater, early on the morning of 17 October 2022. A man, who was familiar to her, approached her and grabbed her hands. He forced a box of matches into her mouth so she could not make alarm. He punched her and she fainted. When she woke up, the woman realized she had been raped and reported the incident to the police.
