Krista Molebatsi makes headlines

At first glance the 12-year old Krista Molebatsi is a normal, rather timid, shy girl who is just trying to juggle schoolwork and her personal life.

However, when you take a closer look, it becomes clear that this petite powerhouse is a force to be reckoned with.

Resilient, focussed and driven are the characteristics you can attribute to Thabazimbi’s own netball superstar Like every typical teenaged girl, Krista spends her time trying to make the best of every day; whether that is hanging out with friends, spending time with her family, keeping abreast of schoolwork or wiping the floor with her contenders on the netball court.

On Thursday March 18, Krista, along with a few of her Laerskool Thabazimbi teammates, attended trials for the Limpopo provincial netball team, and it quickly became clear that she is one to select for the provincial team.

The past year proved to be a challenging year for school learners and athletes all over South Africa, and even in Thabazimbi, the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic put a hold on learners’ dreams.

These challenging times, however, never fazed Krista, and as reflects on the challenges her and her peers faced last year, she explains that coming out on top is easy when you love what you do.

“We all had to work extra hard to become fit and get ready for this season,” she explained, “but I think if you love what you do, it is very easy to excel at what you do.”

For Krista, her love of netball, the support of her family and friends and the motivation of her teachers and coaches is what helped her to become the strong player she is today.

The new restrictions that were announced by government on all contact sport, came as a huge shock for Krista and her team mates.

But true to her norm her tenacity shines through and she said that although they are disappointed that they will not be playing for the provincial team soon, she is determined that this will not stop her from pursuing her dreams.

“My father and mother were very proud when it was announced that I was selected for the Limpopo team. Now they are supporting me and motivating me to keep practicing and to do my level best on all spheres of life,” she said.
