New principal takes the reigns at Phagameng

Phagameng High School in Modimolle welcomed Finika Laka who was recently appointed as new school principal.

Laka shared her views on the year ahead with readers of The Post:

“I am excited about this appointment. It feels as if I am coming home, because I was a science educator at this school for almost 20 years.”

Laka started her teaching career in 1997 at Phagameng High School and was Head of the Department of Mathematics and Physical Science until 2016. She accepted the deputy principal position at Maope High School in Bela-Bela in 2017 and was promoted to principal of the school.

The Post spoke to Brenda Scrooby, learner process facilitator for Partners for Possibi- lity (PfP) in the Waterberg district.

She told The Post that Laka successfully completed the Partners for Possibility (PfP) Leadership Development Programme in June 2020. Scrooby said:

“We congratulate Finika and know that she will embrace her journey as principal at Phagameng High School.”

Regarding the new academic year that is about to start, Laka said:

“We currently have 2 116 learners enrolled in our school, but we expect the enrolment to increase during the first week of the reopening of schools.” “My vision for the school is to create an environment of quality learning and quality teaching. We want this school to become the best in the district. Learners must be proud to be called a student of this establishment,” she said.
