WATERBERG SECOND BEST

Post-primary schools in parts of the Waterberg have exceeded their wildest expectations in terms of improvements in matric results.

Post-primary schools in parts of the Waterberg have exceeded their wildest expectations in terms of improvements in matric results.

The broader picture is that the Waterberg was hailed as the best improved in terms of the matric pass rate, compared to other districts across the province.

The district received a trophy as the second best overall performer in Limpopo.

While it turned out an uphill struggle to make contact with many of the township schools ahead of The BEAT’s tight deadline, Maope High School in Bela-Bela- reported an impressive increase from 64% in 2018 to a 73% in 2019.

Maope High School headmaster Maggy Laka attributed the improvement to additional hours put in to prepare the matrics for the final examinations.

In Modimolle headmaster Steve Majapholo, of Solomon Mahlangu High School, said the Class of 2019 had achieved a 67% pass rate, as compared to 51% in 2018.

The headmaster sang praises for both learners and educators, who he said collectively put shoulder to the wheel and worked even harder.

There was a tick up too in terms of matric results at Bela-Bela High School, with a pass rate of 82,6%, compared to 81,3% in 2018.

Bela-Bela High School headmaster, Lucas Nukeri, said it was hard work all the way, although the school had not reached its target of 90%.

At the beginning of the school term Nukeri put up prizemoney of R10 000 for a learner who could achieve a 75% pass rate in all subjects.

He was, at the time of going to press, still to confirm if any of the learners could claim the prizemoney.
