Awe-inspiring development in MMA’s

The founders of the Modimolle-Mookgophong Music Awards (MMA) were left agape, after reaching upwards of 40 000 votes in a matter of four days.

This comes shortly after the announcement of the nominees, and also the call for music lovers to vote for their favourites artists in various categories.

The inaugural MMA’s were scheduled for Saturday, 7 December at the OR Tambo Hall in downtown Modimolle.

Familiar names such as Baldwin Kay, TRV Lie Band, Shibu Molomo, Tiisetso Motjetje and Bayor 97 have popped up among the nominated artists.

The co-founder of the awards, Shawn Moropa said he never anticipated such a huge response from members of the public.

“I am impressed by the response we received. Four days after calling for people to vote for their favourite artists, we were already sitting at 40 832 votes (by Monday, 29 October). We are calling on people to continue voting as there is no limit to the number of votes one can submit,” he said.

Moropa said these awards served as motivation to many local artists who were already giving up on their careers.

He said the fact that the awards were uniquely fashioned in a way that upcoming artists are pitted against those who have been in the field for some time, will also be an interesting factor.
