Two breast cancer survivors Ellen Phala and Cathrine Nkuna touched the hearts of many people who attended a breast cancer awareness event.

The event was held at Bela-Bela’s Uniting Reformed Church in SA on Sunday 27 October.

Church member Joyce Langa explained the purpose of the event, which was to create awareness on the disease.

Church head Reverend Pheto Mosima was among the motivational speakers.

He said the awareness event was meant to teach and reach out to people who did not know about the disease.

The speakers encouraged attendees to go for mammograms regularly.

They also enlightened them that living a healthy lifestyle, being active, avoiding being overweight and limiting their intake of alcohol can reduce chances of getting breast cancer.

The Events and Fundraising Committee donated candles which symbolise the awareness and provided everyone who attended with pink ribbons.

Mosima said the highlight of the awareness was that they have learned a lot about breast cancer and a special prayer was shared with all those who lost their loved ones due to the decease.
