Retired Bela-Bela circuit manager Victor Maloka inspired learners at Maope Secondary School about heritage and motivated them on the importance of knowing one’s origins and tradition.

This happened during the school’s cultural day celebration, an event held during morning assembly on Friday 4 October.

The event was held under the theme: Reinstalling the spirit of respect and patriotism around our communities.

Educators, management, the SGB, support staff, learners, parents and guests were dressed in their traditional attire, with various activities lined up to keep the audience entertained.

These included cultural dance, mass choirs, poets and performing artists, such as Piet Nkuna and his group, duo Pontsho Ramodipa and Lehlogonolo Maswanganye, as well as hip-hop artists Jay
Blessed Kid, Poppy Boy and Savage X Kid.

While addressing the learners, Maloka’s motivation included dressing up one learner, Kamogelo Khumalo with academic regalia as encouragement for him and the rest of the learners to do well and also get the opportunity to put on the gown like he did.

Khumalo (18) is a Grade 12 learner and the school’s RCL president.
