Young people from different areas in the Waterberg gathered at the Bela-Bela Multipurpose Centre on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September to attend a youth arts festival.

Young people from different areas in the Waterberg gathered at the Bela-Bela Multipurpose Centre on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September to attend a youth arts festival.

The event was hosted by Dinokeng tsa Limpopo Theatre Production (DTLTP) from Bela-Bela.

This was a festival where participants were competing in different forms of arts disciplines, including poetry, drama, storytelling and gumboots dance.

DTLTP is an NGO founded by its chairperson Godwin Sigama in 2008.

The company specializes in drama, storytelling, gumboots dance and many other activities.

Sigama said the main purpose of the festival was to remind young people that there are better things to engage themselves in and refrain from drugs, substances and other social ills.

“We were trying to get them to avoid being involved in this excessive use of alcohol and teenage pregnancy which are plaguing our community and are very concerning. We saw it fit to get them to
do this through what they love and know and we hope our desire will influence many artists to display their talents,” he explained.

He also thanked the event sponsors.
