Limpopo arts activists tumble down from CCIFSA conference

The entire leadership of the Limpopo arts sector came tumbling down from the elective conference of the Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA).

The entire leadership of the Limpopo arts sector came tumbling down from the elective conference of the Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA).

Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa was the guest of honour at the conference held from Friday 23 August to Sunday 25 August.

Prior to the conference, Limpopo was represented by Eric Govane (popularly known as Papa Penny), as the organization’s deputy president, plus a total of nine members of the National General Council (NGC).

Ahead of the election process for this term’s leadership, Limpopo artists had different opinions on who was fit to replace Papa Penny and the outgoing NGC members.

This resulted in the nominated candidate for the position, actress, singer and scriptwriter, Precious Marobele, recusing herself from contesting.

The province returned with no representative in the top leadership and sector representatives’ positions.

The Limpopo provincial, district and local elective conferences were to take place at dates and venues yet to be determined.

CCIFSA was established by the national Department of Arts and Culture back in 2015 as a unifying body to champion and represent the interests of the cultural and creative sector.
