Waterberg for new district-based model

The Waterberg District Municipality has been identified in Limpopo to pilot the new district-based model for development by the President’s Coordinating Council (PCC).

Presidency spokesperson, Khusela Diko, said the model will synchronise planning by all spheres of government, and involve citizens and civil society in the development of South Africa’s 44
district municipalities and eight metros.

This is the key outcome of the first meeting of the PCC which met in Pretoria on Tuesday 20 August 2019, convened by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The PCC’s endorsement of the Khawuleza (hurry up) District Coordination Service Delivery model follows overwhelming support for the new approach, by the Cabinet.

The model was also submitted for approval by Cabinet at its meeting in Cape Town on Wednesday 21 August.

The model seeks to secure maximum coordination and cooperation among the national, provincial and local spheres of government.

A presentation to announce the Waterberg as the pilot region for PCC’s model will be made during the Premier’s Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) Forum scheduled for Thursday 5 September.
