Limpopo hosts Zimbabwe delegation

The Limpopo provincial leadership and a delegation from Zimbabwe met at Bela-Bela’s Zebula Golf Estate last Friday 30 August, for the Trans-Limpopo Spatial Development initiative.

Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha spearheaded the provincial delegation, while the Zimbabwean envoy was led by Matebeleland North Minister, Richard Moyo, Matebeleland South Minister, Abednigo
Ncube, and Bulawayo Metropolitan State Minister, Judith Ncube.

Mathabatha brought along the MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), Thabo Mokone.

Premier spokesperson, Kenny Mathivha, said the objective of the bilateral engagements was to strengthen mutual economic activity between the two neighbouring regions.

He said the collaboration between Limpopo Tourism Agency and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority is to share tourism promotion strategies.

The mutual agreement was to market Polokwane International Airport, JN Nkomo Airport and Victoria Falls Airport, as the gateway into the broader African continent.

The Trans-Limpopo Spatial Development Initiative was first proposed in 1998 as part of the effort to forge regional integration.

“Also part of the rationale behind this initiative was to find lasting ways to grow and develop the economies of our respective provinces,” Mathivha explained.

In his remarks during the meeting, Mathabatha said he believed that using their strategic location as neighbours and as people who share strong social ties, they could use their collective
resources to integrate their economies and advance together.
