Two police officers from Mookgophong were released on R1 000 bail after being charged with the theft of R18 000 from the loot of an armed robbery.

Mookgophong police spokesperson, Warrant Officer George Ledwaba, said the two suspects were expected to appear again before the Mookgophong Magistrate’s Court on 4 October.

He said an outlet of Pep Store was robbed of a cash amount of R88 000, with various police units rushing to the scene.

Two of three alleged alleged robbers were arrested on the scene, with another suspect fleeing on foot.

He said R18 000 of the loot was found in a police vehicle used by the two arrested cops.

The two police officers appeared in court on Monday 26 August, the same day as the two alleged robbers made their first appearance in court.

Ledwaba could not say if the two officers would face internal disciplinary processes, and when.

“At this stage, it is not clear as to what will happen to the two while their case is still on. We will have to wait to hear from the seniors as to where to from here,” he added.
