Mookgophong Barcelona FC is in the process of beefing up its squad ahead of the Waterberg Regional Men’s League 2019/20 season.

The league was previously known as the Waterberg SAB Regional League.

For the past two weeks, the team has been playing off-season tournaments to reinforce the squad, and to also allow new signings to adjust to the new environment.

The Mookgophong team has signed a new goalkeeper, Amogelang Maputla and attacker Samuel “Shakes” Mamabolo.

Maputla has been promoted from the Barcelona FC development structures, while Mamabolo was signed from PJ Stars.

The director of Barcelona FC, Martin Mothye, said they participated in an eight-team tournament two weekends ago in Hammanskraal, and emerged victorious as the ultimate winner.

“Last weekend we also played another tournament where we won the first round, and we are hoping to win it also,” he said.

Mothye said they released some of their players and have roped in young blood into the team.

He said the aim is to build a team that will be able to compete in the league, and further qualify for the play-offs at the end of the season.

As per the Waterberg Regional Men’s League’s requirements, the team must have a minimum of five players under the age of 21 fielded at the start of the match.

The date for the league kick-off was yet to be confirmed.
