A man from Mookgophong was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for murder by the Polokwane High Court on Monday 12 August.

Dineo Benjamin Seanego’s appearance is a sequel to an incident that happened on 18 April 2018 in the Phomolong informal settlement.

Mookgophong police spokesperson, Warrant Officer George Ledwaba, said the accused was convicted on charges of attacking his aunt with an axe, and also with a brick.

He said the accused had an argument with his uncle and slapped him, and that when the uncle ran out to seek help from neighbours, Seanego had another argument, this time with the man’s wife.

Ledwaba said Maria Mmethi died instantly.
