Limpopo under-21 squad return home empty-handed

The Limpopo under-21 soccer squad has for the umpteenth year running returned from the SAB championships with nothing to show for it.

The province’s under-21 squad was bundled out in the group stages of the 2019 SAB championships, held in the North West capital of Mafikeng recently.

This has been the trend since the year 2008.

The furthest the Limpopo under-21 team ever reached was when the team came up third in 2008.

From 2010 to 2012 the team continued to be knocked out from the group stages.

Limpopo South African Football Association (Safa) secretary, Pat Seema, pointed an accusing finger at the team selectors, who he said did not dig deep enough to find talent.

He said several of the players who were not selected for the provincial line-up, ended being signed by teams in the elite Absa Premiership.

Seema said selectors should start monitoring the performance of individual players closer than in the past.
