Ambitious young woman granted opportunity to study in UK

Twenty-six year old Boinette Mitta Selokela of Modimolle is a young woman with big dreams.

Twenty-six year old Boinette Mitta Selokela of Modimolle is a young woman with big dreams.

The founder a faith-based non-profit organisation, Heaven’s Princess, has been accepted to study for a Masters’ degree in Woman and Child Abuse, at the London Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom.

However, between Selokela and her dream, there is a major obstacle that is keeping her from achieving her goals.

She told The BEAT that in order for her dream to become a reality, she needs about R500 000.

“I was supposed to start with the course in September 2018, but I was unable to study due to lack of funds,” she said.

Selokela said she requested the university to defer her course date to January 2019, but she still failed to begin studying due to the same challenge.

“I applied again this year for the same course and I was given an unconditional offer for the second time,” she told The BEAT.

Of the R500 000 needed for Selokela to pursue her dream, R240 000 will be paid towards tuition fees, R130 000 for accommodation, and the rest will be for among other needs, a visa application, flight ticket, and books.

Fifty percent has to be paid by mid-August for the course to begin in September.

Selokela, who holds a Degree in Social Work, said after studying she would come back home to use the skills she would have acquired to help women and children who experienced abuse and violence.

The young woman, who is currently serving the community of Modimolle, through her non-profit organisation, has also received a recommendation letter from Modimolle-Mookgophong Mayor Marlene van Staden.
