The 5 km and 10 km events take place annually.

Organiser and endurance cyclist-cum-runner, Boikie Monareng, said he was satisfied with the turnout, especially considering the cold weather.

He said he was convinced local philanthropists may consider donating running shoes for the youngsters, who did it anyway without such luxuries.

Monareng said the youngsters were future athletes who needed encouragement and motivation going forward.

He said funds collected for registration on race day would be channelled into purchasing running shoes for some of the athletes.

Sello Maluleka won the 5 km event, with Sinki Makalla the runner-up, and Lethabo Simango emerging third.

Phuti Mohale was the winner in the 10 km event, with second position going to Noah Motimedi, and Martin Nkoe coming up third.

Maria Sebolao won the ladies’ 10 km event, with Mmathapelo Matjeke the runner-up and Pamela Monama coming up third.
