Five in court for murder

Five suspects were expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court this week in connection with the murder of a 46-year-old man from Extension 6, Bela-Bela.

Five suspects were expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court this week in connection with the murder of a 46-year-old man from Extension 6, Bela-Bela.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Frans Maponya confirmed that all the suspects are from Bela-Bela, aged between 21 and 27.

He said that the suspects’ arrest and subsequent court appearance is a sequel to an incident that happened on Saturday 20 April in the township.

The police received a call from a resident staying at the area, reporting about a man who was found killed and thrown into his yard.

“A team of cops led by Warrant Officer Sello Mangana rushed to the scene to discover the incident and immediately started searching the suspects,” Maponya said.

According to the information received, the deceased was found with stab wounds on the head but the police could not tell how many and the type of weapon used.

Maponya said the arrested suspects were cornered and nabbed on the same day of the discovery and were due for court on Tuesday 23 April on a charge of murder.
