R25 -million grant

Shot in the arm for Modimolle and Mookgophong

Modimolle-Mookgophong Mayor Marlene van Staden has reason to believe the recent R25-million Water Services Infrastructure Water Grant cash injection will go a long way to address water supply challenges in the two towns.

She expressed the council’s gratitude upon the receipt of the grant, saying she is “pleased” with the development.

“I am pleased to announce that the Modmimolle-Mookgophong Municipality has received a R25-million Water Services Infrastructure Grant (WSIG),” Van Staden said.

She said the grant will be allocated to the completion of five water and sewerage infrastructure projects across the municipality.

“The completion of these projects will have a positive effect on service delivery by the municipality, including resolving the recent sewage issues experienced in Modimolle,” she said.

The mayor said the expenditure and project management will be done under the leadership of the municipality’s administrator, Mapule Makoko, with oversight from council.

Van Staden said Council had approved the completion of, among others, the rehabilitation of the Frikkie Geyser Dam in Mookgophong, and the refurbishment of the Modimolle waste water treatment works.

The allocation would also be diverted into the upgrading of the main sewer outfall in Modimolle, the refurbishment of the Mookgophong waste water treatment works, and the replacement of a
seven-kilometre asbestos pipeline in Mookgophong, as well as the repaving of sidewalks.
