Modimolle’s long distance runner Lucas Seleka touched the lives of hundreds of youngsters, when he recently made sanitary towels donations at six rural schools.

Seleka kick-started the project last year in December, when he initiated a 44-km marathon from Modimolle to the village of Katjibane outside Settlers.

The long distance runner went through this mission with fellow athletes Piet sekgabi, Sibusiso mlangeni, Jane Lechelele Kataki Senyatsi and Samson Mabiya.

The donations were made to Katjibane Primary School, Somabedlana Primary School, Thabong Primary School, Motswedi Primary School, Rakau Combined School and Pungutsha High School.

“I have been receiving messages from people at home, thanking me for what I did. I cannot take all the credit. I thank everyone who contributed to this project,” he said.

Seleka said the initiative would be an annual event.

A 5-km and 10-km fun run was also in the pipeline for the rural community.
