The community of Modimolle arrived in their numbers to take part in the Plant a Seed fun run on Saturday, 23 February at the Phagameng-based Apostolic Faith Mission.

The event was part of the broader Plant a Seed initiative hosted by local artist and philanthropist, Rebecca Mokgosi.

Mokgosi co-hosted the event with local non-profit organisations, among them the Paul Dave Foundation, Given to Give, Heaven’s Princess and Fitness for All athletics club.

Proceeds collected from the fun run will be contributed towards the purchasing of school uniforms for deserving learners.

The beneficiaries will be identified from the local primary schools and also a number of farm schools around the town of Modimolle.

On the occasion of the running of the 10km male category of the fun run, Noah Motimedi showed his competitor Mojalefa Mashitatona a clean pair of heels to claim the first position.

Motimedi completed the 10km race at 35 minutes and 40 seconds, with Mashitatona finishing second at 43 minutes.

Hot on the heels of the two athletes was Tinotenda Chiwenga who came out third.

The 10km female category was won by Tebogo Sibuyi, followed by Bothoboile Chakanyuka (2nd) and Sarah Baloyi (3rd).

Kehomoditswe Sekgabebe won the 5km female category, with Only Mashoko and Khumo Peta claiming second and third positions respectively.

Dimakatso Ncube was the 5km female category winner, followed by Martha Mabusela (2nd) and Thakgatso Segowa (3rd).

Fitness for All athletics club’s Ezekiel Moatshe said his organisation was honoured to be part of this life-changing initiative.

“We saw the need to be part of this initiative, because the initiative is about giving and sharing with those less fortunate than us. The little that everyone would have contributed, when put together, is bound to make a huge impact,” he said.

Rebecca Mokgosi, who is the brains behind the Plant a Seed initiative, thanked the community of Modimolle for their contribution, and further pleaded with them to continue their support in
future.

Mokgosi said the next step will be the worship night, where the locals will enjoy gospel music by local artists.
Entry fee will be R60, and the proceeds will also be directed towards the initiative of providing school uniforms to deserving learners.
