Four former Bela-Bela police officers were expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 22 January.

Four former Bela-Bela police officers were expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 22 January.

The foursome face charges of corruption, armed robbery and kidnapping.

Humbulani Mulaudzi (39), Jan Maswanganyi (33), Sibusiso Makwela (37) and Simon Sebelebele (40) were released on bail on R5000 each.

The court proceedings flow from an alleged brazen armed robbery from which a cash amount of R190 000 was taken.

The four men have since been relieved of their duties as police officers at the SAPS station in Bela-Bela.

The chain of events had, at the time of the arrest, created as buzz in the town, with throngs of people converging on the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on the men’s first court appearance.
