It’s International Gin and Tonic Day

Toast With a Non-Alcoholic Version of the World’s Most Iconic Tipple

It goes without saying that a gin and tonic makes one of the most popular drinks around the world, and is long celebrated as a classic British drink, which came into existence in 1689.

Since 2010, the 19th of October has annually been observed and celebrated as International Gin and Tonic Day.

As a world leader in non-alcoholic spirits, Lyre’s is marking this occasion with its Dry London Spirit, that has been carefully crafted to pay homage to the flavours of the world’s most classic, time-tested spirit – gin.

Mixologist, Joe Mthimkhulu, the newly appointed Brand Ambassador to Lyre’s in South Africa offers some advice on creating the perfect G&T as an alcohol-free sophisticated serve. The beauty of Lyre’s is that it gives you the freedom to drink your drink, your way – anytime.

“The G&T is a quintessential summer cocktail,” he says. “At its simplest, this classic drink requires just two components. Choosing high quality ingredients and finishing with some thoughtful garnishing, you can make this simple cocktail truly extraordinary.”

What’s more he says, by making it a Lyre’s non-alcoholic G&T, you can enjoy a G&T at any time of day or during any occasion.

Lyre’s Dry London Spirit has been carefully crafted to capture the essence of a classic London Dry style Gin, with flavours that are distinct and contemporary. The taste includes bold flavours of juniper and citrus. Earthy notes fill the mid-palate which has lovely vinous qualities. The pepper berry adds warmth and delivers a generous, dry finish.

While making a G&T is not an exact science, don’t just put any amount of ingredients into a glass. “I recommend using a ratio of 2:5, as in 2 parts spirit to 5 parts tonic,” he adds. “Make sure you chill your glasses in the freezer for approximately 20 minutes prior to serving.”

To a highball glass, add 45ml of Lyre’s Dry London Spirit and 120ml of premium tonic water. Fill the glass with ice and garnish with a slice of fresh pink grapefruit and a sprig of rosemary and stir.

Libations!
