One suspect nabbed for possession of unlicensed firearm

Further investigation is underway with Johannesburg Central police.

Johannesburg Central police apprehended a male suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm at the corner of Jeppe and End streets on June 19 at 13:00.

Johannesburg Central police acting communications officer Const Constance Lelimo said police were conducting a stop-and-search when they stopped a taxi and instructed all passengers to get out of the taxi to search them.

“While searching them they found a firearm and one magazine with no rounds on one African male’s waist and asked for a licence, which he failed to produce. The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it was not used in the commission of other serious and violent crimes,” she said.
