Church takes the lead in feeding the community

The church has about 60 members.

Quwm Ministries, a church operating at Hoërkool Die Fakkel under Past Glenn Nandh and Past Sharon Hill, delivered 300 meals to the needy on May 22.

They gave food and snacks to children and people of Kleindorpie next to Southdale and Alberton informal settlement.
Quwm is a Hebrew word that means arise. Nandh said they want a generation that will walk in their God-given gifts, set the captives free, heal the sick, feed the poor and save the lost.

“We have active members who gather on Saturday mornings and cook food that will be distributed in the South of Johannesburg. We cook about 300 to 400 meals a day, depending on the demand we have on that particular Saturday. People need help out there and we are here for them,” he said.

He mentioned they want to do church the way it is supposed to, going back to basics.

“We are doing church differently, the way that has an impact to people. While helping the needy, we awaken the dormant talents our youth and the community possess.
“Most churches preach salvation, on top of that we are doing what Jesus did: feed, restore, heal and help people. That is what God asks us to do, that is what the Bible told us. The mandate is to help people,” he said.

The church services are on Wednesdays at 7pm and on Sundays from 9am. For those who cannot attend, the services are streamed online as well.
Nandh also said as winter is fast approaching, a soup kitchen is on the table. For more information, he can be contacted on 082 962 5551.
