High-calibre weapons found inside abandoned vehicle in Ormonde
AK47, R4 rifle, a Beretta 9mm pistol and ammunition as well as two sets of fake number plates were discovered.
High-calibre weapons were found inside a vehicle that was abandoned on the side of the road following a conducted crime prevention patrols in Crown Mines on Tuesday morning, April 4.
“Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Undercover officers received a lookout from SAPS Crime Intelligence for a Silver 5 Series BMW with approximately three to four males who were possibly armed with rifles in the Booysens and Langlaagte area,” said Xolani Fihla, the JMPD spokesperson.
“When officers spotted the BMW and attempted to stop it, it sped off and officers lost sight of it. A short while later the officers saw the BMW abandoned on Amethyst Street, Ormonde and it was unlocked.
“The officers discovered an AK47, R4 rifle, a Beretta 9mm pistol and ammunition as well as two sets of fake number plates,” he said.
The vehicle was tested and it was discovered that it was sought as per the Eden Park SAPS case.
“The vehicle was booked at the SAPS Aeroton pound and all articles seized were booked in at Booysens SAPS,” concludes Fihla.
