WATCH: Alberton High ready for reopening of schools

Following Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga’s recent address, the school has proudly announced that it is prepared to welcome its learners back to class.

With schools reopening on June 1, not only has Alberton High School disinfected its classes, but they are digitally equipped and ready to go back to class.

Following Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga’s recent address, the school has proudly announced that it is prepared to welcome its learners back to class.

The school has adhered and observed the health and safety protocols under lockdown regulations. They have done this by deep cleaning the whole school in areas such as classrooms, the staff room and the school’s tuck shop.

They have also installed a Thermo scanner. This is an alternative to the traditional temperature scanner, which helps to avoid contact between people. It is able to recognise whether a person is wearing a mask or not. It digitally scans the person’s temperature and alerts them if the temperature is too high or too low.

Oscar von Platen, a teacher at the school, said: “We have arranged our own face masks that comply with regulations that are branded to show unity in addition to those issued by the department.”

Measures in place

• Face masks that are branded with a school emblem.
• To place hand sanitisers in classrooms.
• They have secured a spray tunnel that will be in front of the admin block.
• Visitors to the schools are discouraged and will only be allowed by appointment.
• They will be social distancing at all times.
