Less than two weeks ago, popular singer-songwriter Yatho Kraf, known from The Voice SA season three, released his debut single, Ugly.
To date, the response has been overwhelming for this young Alberton artist, with a high volume of streams, downloads and views of his lyric video.
But more importantly for Yahto and his team was the deluge of messages sent to him about how the song has resonated with the audience, who say this song has helped them in dealing with their experiences. It’s as if he was singing directly to them.
This song has always been more than ‘just another single’. To him, it has been about taking his power back, owning who he was and being proud of that. The song is for the downtrodden, victimised, bullied and marginalised.
But on the other end of the scale, it’s for everyone to celebrate themselves and to love who they are and be comfortable in their own skin.
Yahto said receiving these messages has meant the world to him. He is fast becoming a voice of his generation. There have also been ongoing requests to give more information behind the song, lyrics and video.
While he has been in #Lockdown in Alberton, Yahto has listened to the messages and decided to record a behind-the-scenes video for all those people, and others who haven’t been in touch, who might be going through challenges.
