16 SA Military History Society meets again in the Auditorium of the Museum of Military History, Erlswold Way, Saxonwold (next to the Zoo) on January 16 at 8pm. First event will be “Unravelling the mysteries of the H.L. Hunley – my recent visit to the Warren Lasch Conservation Centre” by Jan-Willem Hoorweg with the main lecture “Operation Ironclad: The Invasion of Vichy Madagascar 1942” by Errol Cunningham. Wives are welcome to come along with their husbands. Visitors are charged R30 per person, which includes tea or coffee after the lecture. 18 NICHE Community Market is open every Saturday at the Walkerville Showgrounds from 9am to 2pm. Stallholders sell honey, jams, handmade natural soaps, plants, fresh produce, aloe creams, cookies and biscuits, biltong, koeksisters, fudge and candyfloss, as well as a variety of crafted goods. Fresh-food vendors include Asian food, boerewors rolls, vetkoek and Indian food. There is a gin bar, craft beer and ciders. There’s a play area for the children and pets are welcome. 2 Jozi Urban Market is taking place. It has 35 interesting stalls, including gourmet coffee, craft beer and gin, fine wines, cocktails, exotic multicultural food, live music, local fashion and art, this urban attraction is most definitely the best hangout on the first Sunday of every month. The Jozi Urban Market is situated on the fifth floor covered car park rooftop of Gold Reef Casino, which offers a spectacular view of Johannesburg. The market runs from 10am to 3pm, giving you ample time to catch a meal, relax while sipping a craft gin or beer in the chill area, listen to soft live jazz or have family fun in the free Seeff Nerf Battle Zone. There is something for everyone, including car and fitness enthusiasts.

NEW 15 Stained glass workshop in the tranquil settings of Henley on Klip on February 15. Workshops lasts about three to four hours and you will complete a sun catcher which is yours to keep. All tools and materials will be provided as well as instruction and possibly a cup of tea or coffee if you can drag yourself away from your project. The workshops are aimed at people who want to try their hand at stained glass before committing to buying equipment and glass, and to those who only want a little fun. Each workshop takes a minimum of three people and a maximum of six.
