27 THE Horticultural Society invites you to a talk by SANParks rangers John and Ella Roberts on South African National Parks on March 27 at 9.30am at The Floreum, Johannesburg Botanical Gardens, Olifants Road, North entrance, Emmarentia. 30 The 5km fun run, The UV Run, will be held at Rietvlei Zoo Farm on March 30 in aid of Epic Foundation and hosted by Glow4Events. Runners will get to experience unique glow zones along the trail and there will also be a Bug Zone where children can have their faces painted, receive balloon animals and enjoy other fun activities. The event and registration will open at 4pm and the run will start at 7pm. Purchase a ticket today on www.glow4events.com Prices are R180 per adult, R60 for children ages five to 13 and children under five years enter for free. Hurry – tickets are limited.
30 INTERNATIONAL Society for Krishna Conscience (ISKCON) will be hosting its second Festival of Chariots, or Ratha Yatra as it is traditionally known, as a celebration of love which envelops the community. The festival is set to start on March 30. The core foundation of the festival is unity and love through active yoga and transcendental meditation. The festival has often been described as a revolutionary one-world mardi gras hosted in all the major cities in the world. Festivities kick off at 10.30am at Simmonds Road next to Newtown Music Factory. Food and entertainment will be provided for free. 9 ALBERTON Cricket Club will be holding their senior section golf day at Reading Golf Club. Cost of a four-ball is R2 200, which includes a halfway voucher and dinner at the prize-giving. Tee-off will start at 10.30am with individual tee-offs being confirmed on booking. Sponsorship will be charged at R1 000 per tee/green. 11 CALLING all golfers to join Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Centre on their golf day, Tee for Two, on April 11 at Reading Country Club. The format for the day is a betterball Stableford at R2 000 per four-ball, which includes a R40 halfway voucher and prize-giving dinner. Tee off times are from 10am to 12.16pm. 11 THE SA Military History Society gets together again on April 11 at 8pm at the auditorium of the Museum of Military History, Erlswold Way, Saxonwold (next to the zoo). The first event for the evening is the AGM followed by the main lecture on “The real Georg von Trapp: from War Hero to Sound of Music Patriarch” by Nick Cowley. The society holds meetings with lectures on the second Thursday of each month, at which a wide variety of topics of military historical interest are discussed. Wives are welcome to come along with their husbands and enjoy the evening with us. Visitors are charged R30 per person, which includes tea or coffee after the lecture. 8 STEPFAMILY enrichment course will provide practical, realistic solutions to issues that stepfamilies face. This course will help couples who are married, soon-to-be-married or living together and dating couples with children from a previous relationship. It is presented by Ron L Deal, who is a world-leading expert in the field of stepfamily enrichment and is facilitated by members of the Alberton Methodist Church who have successfully raised stepchildren. The course will be hosted at Alberton Methodist Church every Wednesday from May 8 to June 19 from 7pm to 9pm.
