Thembi –The first female prison film that highlights prison life for female inmates.

South African Movie producers and production companies continue to challenge the industry and themselves by creating real South African stories that reflect diverse struggles that many South Africans experience on a daily basis.  Thembi, the first female prison film that highlights prison life for female inmates was shoot at the Constitutional Hill in Braamfontein, the main location for the movie,  is no different.

After holding back for a while, Zizi finally reveals the reason why she was arrested and locked away for such a long time to her daughter Thembi who finds it hard to believe that her mother could have committed such hardcore crimes. In frustration and confusion, she goes back home to her husband but the amount of information in her head causes so many headaches that she takes a nap. Once, Thembi sleeps, she relives everything that her mother told her in her own way.

The directors of the movie were excited about what the future had in store for them not even once worried if the movie will be well received or not. What excited them was the fact that they were on to something that has never been done in South Africa, and also by mainly black film producers.

The film shows prison life, the challenges, survival tactics and it also contains elements of love, affection and romance. Playing the lead is soapie actress Innocent Sadiki, whom as characterised by the producers, has a strong screen presence and ability to bring the character Thembi to life.

When Innocent Sadiki auditioned, managed to use her consummate acting skills to bring Thembi to life and the producers knew she was what they were looking for.

The movie opens for one day only in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban on these dates;
