Celebrating good food, wine and cultures

Thousands flocked to the festival and surrounding streets of Soweto for a weekend and #72HOURS of exploration and celebration of proudly South African wine, music, and food culture.

THE Soweto Wine and Lifestyle Festival exploded at the Soweto Theatre on the first weekend in March. Since its inception, this event has grown in scale and scope, and now attracts thousands of local and international visitors each year.

Thousands flocked to the festival and surrounding streets of Soweto for a weekend and #72HOURS of exploration and celebration of proudly South African wine, music, and food culture.

Twelve years ago, the Soweto Wine Festival kicked off with the vision of sharing this proudly South African product which is wine with the Sowetan audience. With non-stop conversation and entertainment at this year’s festival, guests were delighted by the amount of hospitality shown by the amazing hosts and exhibitors.

The festival’s partnership with the Soweto Theatre allowed it to flourish in a state-of-the-art multi-purpose complex, the ideal backdrop on which to present the Art of Summer Wine, offering a multi-tiered festival venue, indoors and out, to showcase boutique wineries and designers, a music and conversations’ stage and ample public parking alongside the venue.

The Soweto Wine Festival, proudly and unapologetically African, is designed to bring Cape wines into Johannesburg’s largest suburb, Soweto, known for its unique styles and artists, to revolutionise old wine etiquettes and cultures and make them African in every way. This festival has become the most wonderfully integrated event in Johannesburg, where the only colours anyone sees are red, white and rosé.
