Family fundraiser at Marist Brothers for cancer patient

A concert will be held to help raise funds for Inez who suffers from stage three brain cancer.

FRIENDS and family of Inez Barnard are raising funds to supplement this amazing warrior as she fights for her life.

The medical costs she has incurred over the last year is astounding and she is unable to work, due to her aggressive treatment and recent brain surgery.

In August, 2015, Inez was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and, in September, 2015, had a lumpectomy.

From October, 2015, through to January, 2016, she had four red devil chemo sessions (once every three weeks) and in February began weekly chemo sessions for a further two months.

As if this was not enough, Inez was hijacked and abducted at gunpoint.

Her car, jewellery, cash and personal items were stolen, and her money taken out of her bank account. She was, thereafter, left on the side of the road after being driven around by her two abductors for a number of hours.

On March 16, this brave heart completed her weekly chemo sessions and, in April, received the sad news that doctors had discovered a lesion on her brain.

The following month she underwent surgery to have this removed and, around the middle of May, doctors confirmed that she had brain cancer.

Inez began intensive breast radiation treatment at the end of May, and also started intensive brain radiation treatment.

As a result, Inez cannot be on her own for fear of her suffering seizures from her chronic medication and brain surgery. She also has to re-learn how to write, recognize words and how to form sentences. She also can no longer drive, run her own home, or care independently for her dogs or herself.

Inez has one of the most positive, outgoing and beautiful souls we have ever encountered. She touches everyone with her charismatic personality and courageous spirit.

Family and friends of Inez are hoping to raise R200 000 to help with the enormous medical costs she has incurred (and will continue to incur), until she is able to work again.

While most of her costs have been covered by her medical aid, she still, to date, owes over R100 000 to doctors and medical professionals.

Added to this, she needs to have Herceptin treatment every month for the next nine months, at a personal cost to herself of R4 864 per month.

Her medical aid only covers around 80 per cent of this fee for now (actual cost of the Herceptin treatment is R24 321 per month).

Inez is not the kind of person to ask for any help, so we feel that a fund-raiser of this nature will show her how many people love and care about her.

A concert will be held to help raise funds for Inez.

It will take place on October 7, from 18:30 for 19:00, at Marist Brothers Primary School, East Street, Linmeyer. Tickets cost R50, so book now to avoid disappointment, as space is limited.
