Lusito Land Festival

The days will be filled up with shows from some of South Africa’s top musicians and bands.

PORTUGUESE-INSPIRED family festival, the annual Lusito Land Festival is back at Pioneer Park in Wemmer Pan for 11 days, from April 22 to May 2.

This will be the 35th instalment of the festival. The days will be filled with shows from some of South Africa’s top musicians and bands, a funfair for the children as well as restaurants offering some of the most popular Portuguese food.

“We have had some exhibitors and members of the public who have supported Lusito Land right from the beginning and their loyalty is testimony to the fact that this is one of the most popular festivals in Johannesburg. We promise a really fun day out for the family, and by attending, a great cause will be supported,” said Noemia Contente, spokesperson for the Lusito Association for the Physically and Mentally Handicapped.

The festival first started in 1981 as a celebration of the Portuguese tradition and culture. Over the last three decades, it has evolved into a festival celebrated by the many cultures that make up Johannesburg and Gauteng. The Portuguese tradition has, however, been sustained in the wonderful traditional flavours of the food that is an important part of the Portuguese heritage. Lusito Land has proven to be a crowd-pleaser and was voted no fewer than 11 times as Best Festival by ‘Leisure Options Magazine’ readers.

About 160 000 visitors each year walk through the gates, proving it to be the ideal family day out ahead of Gauteng’s winter months. Tickets are available through Computicket at a cost of R85 for adults and teens. Children (six to 12) and pensioners are R50. Children under the age of five gain free access.

Lusito Land is at Pioneers Park, Wemmer Pan, corner of 11th Street and Turf Road, La Rochelle. It is open from 17:00 to 22:00 on weekdays, 10:00 to 23:00 on weekends and public holidays and 10:00 to 19:00 on Monday, May 2.

Lusito Land is proud to announce a great partnership with Stadium Management and Bfree Events in the implementation of three secure designated parking areas which can accommodate all its visitors. Parking tickets can be purchased online at R50 per vehicle. Street parking is strongly discouraged.

The organisers look forward to sharing another great festival with their visitors. For more information go to www.lusitoland.co.za and follow the festival on Facebook – Lusito Land.
