A breath of fresh air

Thinking about a family day out? The Art Farm is definitely worth the drive.

TUCKED away in the beautiful surroundings of Alewynspoort is a hidden gem you just have to discover.

A first visit leaves you with, “Look at that” and “Did you see this?” and you don’t know whether it is the big red barn or wide open wooden doors of quaint little studios which caught your eye first. It could even be the fresh breeze that plays through the air as you make your way from studio to studio with more and more to discover.

These little studios, which include all kinds of gifts to suit just about every taste, are home to three local artists from Alberton; Lizette Jubber, Adri Grobler and Hannah Viljoen. Apart from living out their passion in life, these three ladies also work on consignment and their work is a must see.

Walk a bit further and you will find Granny B’s Old Fashion Paint Store and then, at STTT Royal Creations you will see how creative hands make ceramic art come alive.

A little winery with wine being made right there is another one of the secrets revealed during the tour. With grapes all the way from Franschhoek, the winery offers wine tastings over weekends and also sells bouquet wines.

Once you have made your rounds, you can enjoy lunch, or just coffee and cake, or even a glass of something crisp and cold in either the restaurant or the coffee shop. And here it is the freshness of all things prepared that will keep you coming back for more. The kiddies play area and animal farm will keep the little ones entertained while you browse at leisure.

But let us not forget the small market where you can buy plants, honey products, jewellery, clothing and much more.

Thinking about a family day out? The Art Farm is definitely worth the drive. Pay them a visit at Plot 56, Kliprivier Road, R550, Alewynspoort or phone 071 697 2186 for more information.
