*COUNTRY Crafters will be at 101 Klipriver Drive Mulbarton from Saturday, January 30, from 09:00 to 14:30. A number of new crafters will be joining our happy band of creative people so come and see what is on offer. The crafters have all been very busy during the holiday period making new and different items. In future the crafters will be at 101 Klipriver Drive on the first, third and last Saturday of each month. More crafters are still needed. For more information phone Marion on 011 902 5674.

*HappinessProgramme. Increase your energy, joy and happiness by focusing on powerful breathing techniques. This internationally popular programme from the Art of Living Foundation (NGO) will be happening from February 2 to February 7, from 19:00 to 22:00 and weekends from 09:00 to 15:00 at Bassonia Estate, Bassonia. *Johannesburg Hiking Club monthly slide show will take place on Tuesday, February 9, at 19:30 at Greenside Primary School, with Hiking the Majestic Fjords of Norway by Sarah Whitehead. Cost R25 which includes refreshments. After exploring the picturesque harbour town of Bergen and being horrified by the prices of bottled water in the Norwegian grocery stores, Sarah and her husband Warren travelled north to a guest farmhouse located on the edge of Sognefjord in Northern Norway. This was their base to hike the majestic Fjord region, which included trekking and climbing highlights such as the Valley of the Waterfalls and the Jostedal Glacier, the largest glacier on mainland Europe. *The Horticultural Society meetings will take place on Wednesday, February 10, at 19:30, come and enjoy a talk by Vivienne van der Walt on How to Grow Better Vegetables, at Roosevelt Park Recreation Centre, Preller Drive, Roosevelt Park. Wednesday, February 24, at 09:30, enjoy a talk by Wendy Carstens, on Johannesburg Landmarks visible from Melville Koppies, at The Floreum, Johannesburg Botanic Gardens, Olifants Road, Emmarentia. Wednesday, March 9 at 19:30, come to a talk by Warren Schmidt on Attracting Birds to our Gardens, at Roosevelt Recreation Centre, Preller Drive Roosevelt Park. Wednesday, March 25, at 09:30, a talk by Daniella Alexander on An Update on the Vegetable Gardens and Future Plans at REAA Foundation, at The Floreum, Johannesburg Botanic Gardens, Olifants Road, Emmartentia. *SA Military History Society, Johannesburg Branch will meet again February 11 at 20:00, at the auditorium of the Museum of Military History, Erlswold Way, Saxonwold (next to the Zoo). First event will be: “Colonel Robert Jacob Gordon – Soldier, Explorer, Linguist, Artist and naturalist” by Jan-Willem Hoorweg, with the main lecture “Leningrad – Abused – Besieged – Survived. The siege of Leningrad, 14 September 1941 to 27 January 1944” by John Myburgh. Wives are welcome to come along with their husbands and enjoy the evening. Visitors are charged R30 per person, which includes tea or coffee after the lecture.
