CASH prizes were up for grabs in the recently concluded annual Pam Golding Bowling Challenge.

For five weeks, 24 teams of bowlers from all over Johannesburg, the West- and East Rand, gave it their all at the Southern Suburbs Bowling Club (SSBC) in Rosettenville to stand a change of being crowned bowls champions.

James Millar, the SSBC president, said the participants thoroughly enjoyed the 16th annual tournament.

Frank Duffy, president from the Rand Water Zwartkopjes Bowling Club, said he has been taking part in the tournament since its inception. “I am enjoying it tremendously. Taking part in such tournaments is great fun – bowls is truly a game of brotherhood as it feels that I am playing against my brothers in stead of playing against friends,” said Frank who cannot wait for next year’s tournament.

His namesake, Frank Charnock, from the Westville Park Bowling Club, said for him it is a great social outing and he too has been taking part in the tournament since it first started. “I have been enjoying it ever since,” he said.

The top four teams all received cash prizes from the event sponsor, Pam Golding.
