Bracken High learner earns silver at SANABO 24

The local boxer produced a sterling performance at the championships.

Violet Noyce, a Bracken High learner, has pursued boxing on a provincial level, and her dedication and hard work saw her win a silver medal in the youth category at the South African National Boxing Organisation (SANABO) Championship.

Noyce began boxing in 2022 at the Alberton Boxing Club. She has taken it up as a way to develop discipline. “The sport has taught me a lot about self-control, setting goals and perseverance,” Noyce said.

She then joined the Booysens Boxing Club, where she began training with coach Nicky Ness.

“My coach was instrumental in my boxing development, providing me with technical and mental training,” outlined Noyce.

Bracken High has also been supportive of her boxing. “My school has allowed me to leave school early to compete, allowing me to navigate between my boxing and academics,” she continued.

Noyce struggled to find opponents to compete against and was graded on her boxing instead. She participated in the Gauteng Championships, where she again faced challenges finding opponents, so she automatically qualified for the championship.

“There were not many opponents for me to face, but I trained well and was tested thoroughly in sparring,” Noyce said.
