Glenvista High team suffer loss in tournament

Glenvista High host JVW Diamond Cup match.

Glenvista High School’s U19 girls’ football team took on Trinityhouse Glenvista in the Janine van Wyk Diamond Cup on August 13. The match took place at Glenvista High School.

The cup tournament is the main competition the Glenvista U19 girls compete in. Coach Samantha Foster spoke about the team and their aspirations for the season.

“We have a group of girls that have not played much together and still have a lot to learn. We still have hopes of reaching the semi-finals even though we’ve had a few losses,” Foster said.

The game was well contested in the first half as both teams had many chances to score. Trinityhouse eventually took the lead and won the game 4-1.

After a disappointing performance, the Glenvista High girls applauded the spectators who stayed to watch the end of the game as a sign of appreciation.

“The team has to practise a lot more to get better. We will not give up as I know we will do better,” she said.
