“In 2007, Karen and I decided to start a club of our own in Alberton, based on good values and standards, perfect for a family club where everyone feels comfortable from minis to veterans. We have weekend competitions where we enjoy fishing competitively and have a social side where we build friendships and grow as a fishing family,” he said.

With skilful anglers on their committee, they assist all to enjoy fishing socially and competitively.

Over the years, he said some of their members reached high goals with Protea statuses.

Jurrie said they welcome guests to join them for a weekend to experience first-hand what family fishing is all about.

According to Karen Nel of Visarend Angling Club, angling is mostly misinterpreted by many as a boys’ or men’s sport or getaway.

“This sport is enjoyed by the entire family from mom and dad to children. It is not just a sport but an amazing opportunity to spend quality time outdoors with family and friends, away from the busy and stressful city. As a family, we experience beautiful sunsets and sunrises,” she said.

Most importantly, she said fishing with a club creates safety in numbers.
