Hadebe outboxes opponent to retain title

Top female boxer Simangele Hadebe defeated her counterpart by technical knockout on June 22, defending her African Boxing Union flyweight title.

SA boxing sensation Simangele ‘Smash’ Hadebe successfully defended her African Boxing Union (ABU) flyweight title in a thrilling bout against Tanzanian contender Jesca Mfinanga, ranked number three in the division.

Elias Tshabalala of Fantastic 2 Boxing Promotions promoted the fight at the Kibler Park Recreation Centre in Johannesburg south.

Hadebe showcased skill and tenacity, culminating in a first-round victory that left fans in awe.

“The match took an unexpected turn when Jesca Mfinanga accidentally head-butted Simangele early in the first round. This incident ignited a fiery response from Simangele, whose temper propelled her to unleash a barrage of powerful blows to the head and body of her opponent. Her relentless assault demonstrated why she is the reigning champion because she pressed forward with unparalleled intensity,” explained her manager, Colleen McAusland.

The female prospect of the year award winner, Smangele Hadebe.

As the first round neared its end, Mfinanga, overwhelmed by Hadebe’s onslaught, could not defend herself.

“Exhausted and battered, Mfinanga dropped her hands and turned her back on Smash as she headed towards her corner. According to the ABU rules, this action automatically ended the fight, securing Simangele’s victory before the first round could come to a close,” McAusland said.

Hadebe’s dominant performance reaffirmed her status as a formidable champion and highlighted her ability to remain composed and capitalise on critical moments in the ring.

McAusland expressed immense pride in Hadebe’s achievement, stating, “Simangele’s resilience and power were on full display. Her ability to turn a challenging situation to her advantage and secure a decisive victory speaks volumes about her talent and determination.”

She said Hadebe’s victory marked another significant milestone in her illustrious career as she continues to elevate SA boxing on the international stage.

The fight also served as a testament to her team at McAusland Boxing Gym’s rigorous training and strategic preparation.

McAusland is the first manager to have seven bouts on the bill, of which three were for female titles. All three females won by knockout, and the McAusland stable won all seven bouts.

Hadebe said her fight went by quicker than expected and that the fans wanted to see more action.
