Determination and skill key to Southside Stormers Basketball Club’s victory

Southside Stormers Basketball Club’s U18 boys emerged victorious at the Grade Africa x Let it Fly Classic 3v3 Tournament held on June 16.

Hosted in collaboration with Let it Fly Classic, Grade Africa, and Authentic Talent, with generous support from Puma at Braamfontein Rooftop Basketball, the tournament showcased the skills of eight top-tier basketball clubs.

Among them, the Southside Stormers rose to claim the championship title, marking a significant achievement for the young athletes.

Club secretary Lindelani Mazibuko was present at the event, where the team, led by assistant coach Thulani Mnisi in the absence of chairperson and coach Nathy Madubaduba, demonstrated their determination and skill on the court. The tournament victory comes as the club’s second championship triumph in just one month, highlighting their rapid progress and competitive spirit under the guidance of their coaching staff.

Mnisi and Mazibuko expressed their gratitude and pride in the team’s success, emphasizing the importance of such tournaments in fostering the development of young talent at competitive levels. They extended their thanks to all sponsors and organisers, particularly acknowledging Puma for their support which included a first prize package comprising R10 000, new Puma sneakers, Puma kits, a winner’s trophy, and medals.

“We are immensely proud of our players for their hard work and dedication,” stated Mnisi. “This victory not only validates their efforts but also motivates us to continue providing opportunities for young athletes to excel in sports.”

Mazibuko echoed these sentiments, adding, “We aim to nurture talent and provide avenues for young children to compete at professional levels. Tournaments like these are crucial in achieving that goal, and we hope to secure any form of sponsorship to sustain these opportunities for children across South Johannesburg.”
