Basketball club wants to be a catalyst for positive change

The club will in the future have both males and females teams.

In the bustling heart of Johannesburg South, a new beacon of hope and opportunity has emerged for basketball enthusiasts young and old alike.

The recently established South Side Stormers Basketball Club has quickly garnered attention as it sets out to make a lasting impact on the local community.

Officially registered as a non-profit company with the Department of Social Development, and proudly affiliated with the Johannesburg Basketball League, the South Side Stormers is more than just a sports club.

They represent a commitment to fostering athletic talent, promoting social development, and building a stronger, more interconnected community.

At its inception, the club has hit the ground running, currently fielding teams in the U16 boys, U18 boys, and senior men’s categories. However, their vision extends far beyond these initial offerings.

With a dedicated focus on youth development, the South Side Stormers is diligently working to expand their programmes to include children as young as 10 years old, welcoming both female and male players to the fold.

Club chairperson Ntethelelo Madubaduba said their mission goes beyond just winning games. “We aim to instil values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance in our players, setting them up for success both on and off the court,” he said.

Central to their ethos is a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. Recognising the financial barriers that often hinder participation in organised sports, the South Side Stormers openly invite collaboration with private companies and welcome donations from the public.

These contributions are crucial in ensuring that all aspiring athletes have access to quality coaching, facilities, and equipment.

“Our doors are open to anyone who shares our passion for basketball and community development. Whether it’s through sponsorship, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, every contribution makes a difference.

“Our goal is to be more than just a club. We want to be a catalyst for positive change. By working hand in hand with local businesses, government agencies, and other stakeholders, we believe we can amplify the impact of our initiatives and create lasting benefits for our community,” noted Madubaduba.

For those who are interested in getting involved or supporting this initiative, more information can be found on the club’s social media platforms or by reaching out directly to their management team.

Whether through donations, sponsorship, or volunteering, every contribution helps further its mission of empowering the next generation of athletes and community leaders.
