Ringtennis SA Doubles Champs a massive success

The SA Doubles Championships were held at Alberton Ringtennis Club on November 25.

Ringtennis players went toe-to-toe during the SA Doubles Championships held at Alberton Ringtennis Club over the weekend.

President of Ringtennis SA and secretary of Alberton Ringtennis Club, Melicia Fourie, said this was their first national championship of the season.

“We’ve got three national champs and then we’ve got the senior tournament. This was the first one, which is doubles – where you’ve got two males or two females playing together against two males or two females. Our last one is singles, which is the highlight of the three tournaments. Usually in the school holidays in March, we’ve got the senior tournaments,” she said.

After this, Fourie said they would have their December break and then start again in January.

She also encouraged more people to consider joining ringtennis, adding that this is a great family sport.

Yolanda van Staden alongside Martiné de Bruin.

“You can play the sport until you no longer want to. We would like to encourage all families to participate, not just the kiddies. When I was a junior, our tournaments were so big that we had to have it for two weeks because we had a thousand people playing. But right now the sport is dwindling, Covid-19 was a very big factor,” said Fourie.
