Title fight on the cards for Kibler Park boxer

Kibler Park’s Bernice Ferreira has always been a competitive and productive fighter, one who tackles challenges head-on.

Looking back, pro boxer Bernice Ferreira from Kibler Park had an active and extraordinary year thanks to her manager Colleen McAusland.

Even though she has not yet had any title fights, with an impressive 5-0 victory Bernice believes that a title fight should be on the cards in the near future.

Among her incredible fights for a year, one special bout that stood out for her was when she went toe-to-toe with Mitchell Mubaya, smashing her counterpart and claiming a technical knockout (TKO) win.

“It was my first professional fight where I had my mother and my partner in the crowd. Having that kind of support really changes things for a fighter. Both my trainers John and Fatti and my manager play a huge role in my career. I trust all three of them completely and cannot imagine where I would’ve been in my career without having them support me,” Bernice said.

She said her manager is steering the direction of her career, making sure that she keeps climbing the ladder of success. Discipline and hard work are very crucial for any boxer.

With a proper diet and hours of training, she tries to maintain her energy levels while cutting weight.

“When I have a fight coming up I train twice a day, which includes intense workouts. And I will run in between those sessions. And when I don’t have a fight coming up, I will train at least three sessions a week and have casual running sessions in between. Sometimes I’ll have a ‘cheat meal’,” she said.

Unwavering support from family and friends has continued to play a valuable role in her career.

“Mentally I try to have a very deep and personal relationship with my creator. And I’ve made plenty of sacrifices, at some stage I chose not to have a day job so that I could focus solely on training. If I could have it that way I absolutely would. Unfortunately, in today’s life, we cannot afford to survive without some sort of permanent income, so I have a half-day job and focus on training during the second half of every day,” she explained.

Bernice joined McAusland Boxing Management this year after not having any fights when she turned pro two years ago.

“I got her five fights this year and she’s proven to me she is determined to improve with every fight. She has a great future ahead. She trains with my other girls who are top boxers in South Africa, her sparing partners push her to get better. She will be a champ. I’d like Bernice to fight for the Gauteng title next, hopefully in December or January,” McAusland said.
