Glenvista High School learner excels in ballet, singing and basketball

The young girl from Glenvista is exceptionally good and continues to do well in basketball.

Kelly Sacks (15), a ballet dancer from Glenvita, obtained provincial colours for basketball.

Kelly started dancing at the age of two. She is now at the advanced level of ballet.

Although dancing has been a huge part of her life, for the last two and a half years she has grown passionate about basketball.

Among 10 girls from Gauteng, Kelly was chosen to represent the province and Glenvista High School in the 2022 TriColour Games in Italy.

“I’ve always wanted to play basketball and my love for the sport has always been there. In primary school, there were no basketball courts but when I got to high school I had the opportunity to play. I loved it from the moment I started playing,” said Kelly.

Kelly would train every day for two hours, which was helpful in preparation for the TriColour Games as the discipline was already instilled within her.

“On days where I was tired, I would still train and I believe in working hard,” said Kelly.
Her training includes weekdays after school and weekends.

TriColour Games experience

“Being chosen as one of 10 girls out of the whole province is a blessing to me. My experience in Italy was amazing. The weather was very hot. I interacted with a lot of people and most importantly played my best on the court,” said Kelly.

Kelly and the other nine girls from around Gauteng competed against Croatia, Mozambique and Italy. The challenging part of her experience was playing with players she just met but the team spirit ensured they did their best.

Important part of who she is and yet to become

Kelly’s mother, Marlene Groth said: “I am very proud of Kelly and her achievements. She continues to excel at everything she puts her mind to – from ballet to singing to basketball.”

Kelly Sacks is passionate about ballet.

The talented player is grateful for the support from her mother and former basketball coach, Mark Ho.

“It is the joy I get from winning games and being determined, it is rewarding,” said Kelly.
