Amazing cycling challenge in support of Frida Hartley Shelter

'Men of Steel' are making an effort at the forefront of the fight against women and child abuse.

Cyclist Vicky Dockray will ride to raise funds for the Frida Hartley Shelter at the Madrid to Lisbon Road Bike Tour.

She will ride in the name of Stewarts & Lloyds at the cycle race from Spain to Portugal over nine days, 1100km and 18000mt of climbing.

The Stewarts & Lloyds ‘Men of Steel’ are at the forefront of the fight against women and child abuse.
The company as a whole, but the men of the company in particular, stand together to beat the scourge of this abuse.

Vicky Dockray will ride in the name of Stewarts & Lloyds when she cycles from Spain to Portugal during the Madrid to Lisbon Road Bike Tour in July.

That is why they have chosen this year to raise funds for the Frida Hartley Shelter (FHS) in Yeoville, Johannesburg.
This shelter takes in homeless women and their children who have endured neglect, abuse, trauma and homelessness.

This race, from July 1 and ending eight days later, will be Vicky’s toughest challenge ever.

She is passionate about women’s empowerment, and her goal is to help homeless women and children who have survived neglect, abuse and trauma.

The goal is to raise R110 000 – R10 per km, which will help empower and educate vulnerable women, giving both women and their children a future.

Both the Shelter and Stewarts & Lloyds are turning 100 years old and the company is excited to make this initiative possible. This money can be used to expand the shelter and help more women in need.

Who is Vicky Dockray?

Vicky Dockray is a seasoned cyclist who has cycled thousands of kilometres.

Vicky from Ovakado is a seasoned cyclist who has cycled thousands of kilometres.

In 2016 she completed the Tour of Good Hope. She describes her riding as a challenging but rewarding one.

“I rode a 10-speed Merida Scultura. I loved this bike and did 6168mt of climbing and 522km over five days. We ended the Friday, and I rode the Argus on Sunday.”

In 2018 Vicky completed the Alpine Tour.

“What an unforgettable experience to ride some of the renowned Tour de France climbs during this tour, like Alpe De Huez, Col du Galibier, and the Col de la Madeleine to name a few,” said Vicky.

“I never had to talk, motivate and threaten myself up some of those climbs and had to

face my fear of downhills. One way up and one way down. I was privileged to have a very brief snippet of a Tour de France cyclist flying pass me. I experienced the beauty of kinship between women and the Power of I,” she said.

In 2019 Vicky took on another feat by cycling from Germiston to Maputo to complete 685km in four days. The wind was strong, yet she managed to conquer the distance.

The year 2020 she mostly spent on their couch, but Vicky has a heart for charity and took on the 360km Ultra on a MTB.

“During the lockdown, I raced 16:47 on a stationary bike on Zwift – 360km and 6813mt of climbing. It was done to raise money for people that had no means to buy food as they had no income because of Covid-19,” Vicky said.

“I stopped halfway changing clothes and jumped back on. The race started at 15:00 on a Friday and I finished at 07:47 the next morning, placing third.”
