New black belts for Shotokan karate

New black belt in Alberton.

Two of the Cobras Shotokan Karate Club students recently attended the South African Shotokan Karate Academy’s national black belt grading, which was held in Pretoria late last year.

This is an extremely tough grading, under style head Hanshi Koos Burger, 9th Dan and vice-president of the World Union of Karate-Do Federations, and his Shihan Kai members.

Both students did exceptionally well to pass their gradings. Darshal Chinia passed to his first junior black belt and Vuyelwa Qayiso passed to her second Dan black belt.

For more information or to join the club, which has been operating in Alberton for 25 years now, contact sensei Laurent Gaston-Bellegarde on 082 494 2704 or sensei Nicholas Gaston Bellegarde on 082 302 8637.

Training takes places at Ascot Mews in Alberton (Opposite Makro) on Monday and Wednesday evenings, 5.30pm to 6.30pm. Alternatively, visit www.albertonkarate.co.za
