The celebration is to congratulate the new world champions and medallists after the World Championships held in China.

A number of canoe marathons will be held on the day, starting at 8am, featuring the schools’ league paddlers who will be competing over distances of 4km, 6km, 12km, 16km and 21km.

As part of the day’s festivities, there will be a ‘anything that floats’ competition.

Registration starts at 7am, and the race will take place at approximately 11am, depending on the other races.

The costs will be R200 per entry with a maximum of four people per “float.” Competitors will have to compete one lap of Wemmer pan, which is 2km.

Entry to the Wemmer Pan event area for non-participants will be R20 per person.

Food stalls and a variety of drinks will be available for sale on that day.

A resident DJ will entertain the crowds with music throughout the morning.
