GAUTENG and Limpopo have hosted their u-12 Danone Nations Cup provincial finals and now it’s time for the nationals where the winner of the girls and boys teams will be identified and will travel to Spain to represent South Africa at the world finals.

For the first time, the play-offs had girls teams competing and they winning team in the finals will have a chance to compete in the world finals in the latter part of the year.

The Gauteng play-offs took place on June 7 at Germiston Stadium to coincide with the Department of Education’s winter games with Sicelo Primary School beating Bonamelo 1 – 0 on penalties in the final match, after neither team managed to score in regulation time.

There were nine participating teams including the eight district winners who were joined by The King’s School Robin Hills representing the Johannesburg Primary Schools Football Association, JPSFA.

As with the boys, there were eight girls’ district winners and Bryneven Primary School who represented the JPSFA making up the ninth team.

The good news for the four girls semi-finalists is they all have a second chance as they will play a new tournament at the national finals which will determine the school that will travel to Spain.

The u-12 Danone Nations Cup South Africa national finals promise to be spectacular. They will be joined by the 2018 winners, Nomlinganiselo from the Western Cape who will be the third team travelling to Barcelona.
